A Prominent Government Agency of NYC
Project type
Unified Security, Access Control, Structured Cabling (Copper & Fiber)
Date
2024
Location
New York City
The client needed to unify their Access Control Security System onto a single platform. Their outdated setup relied
on two separate systems with independent databases, creating inefficiencies and complicating security management.
But this wasn’t an ordinary job—this was an over 100-year-old building, one of the toughest in New York City to
work in.
Our Approach:
The Result:
Mason Technologies implemented a Mercury-based access control system to consolidate the two existing databases
into a single, streamlined platform. This solution included the installation and integration of:
• LENELS2 software with Mercury hardware
• Unified Altronix enclosures for enhanced system efficiency and reliability
Our team ensured a seamless transition, aligning the system to meet the client’s operational and security requirements
through a robust design and build process. Leveraging Lenel’s OnGuard Access Control solution, Mason upgraded a
building-wide access control system into a single, centralized security platform. This integration added all doors in the
facility to the client’s central offsite server, providing visibility across the entire building with a Lenel-standardized control
solution.
Executing this project in one of New York City’s most secure facilities posed significant hurdles. The building
operates 24/7 with no downtime, requiring Mason’s team to primarily work at night. Rigorous security protocols demanded
extensive access checks and clearances, with a police officer present at all times. Despite these challenges, Mason adapted to
ensure uninterrupted operations while maintaining the highest standards of security and precision.
Mason deployed the project turnkey for the agency, which included:
• Cabling, physical installation, door modifications, product procurement, commissioning, and training.
• Installing new locking hardware, door contacts, composite cabling, HID card readers, and exit devices at
every access control location.
• Spanning parking areas, perimeter entry, turnstiles, gates, and interior entry points.
• Adding multiple alarm-only locations for first-floor and roof access to enhance perimeter security and monitoring.
Mason not only upgraded the head-end servers and software but also modernized the access control network distribution
throughout the facility. Our team ran network cabling for panels and security desks, enabling centralized health monitoring for
the system. We also added workstations at the security desks, allowing the agency to fully leverage system control and
centralized management.
